A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
Hello and welcome to Mels Space Counselling. My name is Mel and I am a therapist providing both short- and long-term therapy to adults in Hitchin, North Hertfordshire.
In our fast-paced world, we can easily be pushed to our emotional limits, resulting in the neglect of our mental health. Investing time in ourselves so that we don't reach those limits can be a valuable gift. There are however times when unforeseen challenges arise, meaning that we might need support to navigate through difficult times. And sometimes we bravely realise that we need to reflect and heal from our past, for the most transformative gift that we can give ourselves.
If you would like to arrange an initial counselling appointment, you can contact me here. To read more about me and how Mels Space came to be, click here.
If you are looking for support for a difficult birth experience, I offer a calm, safe and understanding environment to talk about your birth. This might be a birth experience you have been through, or a birth that you are planning for. It might even be your own birth, told to you by your parents or carer. Sometimes it is the partner of the birthing person that is left with difficult feelings or maybe you need support with planning a first birth or your next birth.
I bring a unique experience in the birthing world, and if you would like to contact me to arrange an appointment, you can email me here. If you have a baby in arms, and you would feel more comfortable bringing them to your appointment, you are very welcome to do so. Alternatively, if you feel that you would get more from your session by leaving your baby cared for by someone else, that is also fine.
After beginning my career as a Birth Doula, and providing emotional and practical support to clients, I soon understood that many of my clients had undergone traumatic or challenging birth experiences. Recognising the potential long-term psychological impact of these experiences, I felt compelled to pursue further qualifications as a counsellor.
Throughout my training as a counsellor, I had the opportunity to work with a wonderfully diverse range of clients, each with their own unique life experiences and challenges. This experience ignited my passion for supporting all clients, as well as those affected by birth trauma.
As a result, I established Mel's Space, a safe and compassionate environment where individual adult clients can seek support for all their counselling needs. My goal is to provide a welcoming space where individuals can feel heard, understood, and supported.
Birth Doula: Doula's provide emotional and practical support before the birth, during the birth and in the time immediately after birth. That might be a cesarean or physiological birth, in hospital or at home. A Doula can help clients to understand their options and rights around their birth and support them in their choices. We might describe a Birth Doula as a professional birth partner.
You can speak in confidence, knowing that you will be listened to with sensitivity, empathy and without judgement. You can tell me your thoughts and feelings freely and in confidence.
Talking about your everyday problems can be helpful. I'm here to listen if you want to understand relationship problems, are feeling low, struggle with anxiety or perhaps feel overwhelmed with life.
You can bring to our sessions any challenges that you face. You know yourself better than anyone and my role is to support you in finding your solutions.
I offer sessions in Hitchin, North Hertfordshire, which is easily accessible from Letchworth, Baldock, Stevenage, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. I will provide exact location details when we arrange our therapy sessions.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone and online sessions for clients in the Hertfordshire area and beyond. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
If you are coming to me for a Birth Debrief session, it can be important to have a longer session so that we aren't rushing through events which can be harmful if there are any feelings of trauma. For this reason I offer a 90 minute initial session and 60 minute subsequent sessions as required.
For all other counselling needs, I offer a 60 minute session unless agreed between us otherwise.
Please do get in touch if you wish to arrange an appointment, have any questions or would like to understand more about how counselling works at Mel's Space.
You can use this secure contact form to drop me a message with your contact details and I will get back to you as soon as I can. If you have a specific day/time that you do NOT wish me to call, please let me know in your message.
